Watercolor pencils are such a fun medium, but they can definitely be tricky to master because they are a drawing and painting medium all rolled up into one.

I created a full watercolor pencil tutorial that I shared on my YouTube channel which is great for anyone just getting started with this versatile medium, as well as for more advanced artists who are looking to improve their techniques for better results.

I've included everything, from how I create my preliminary pencil sketch stemming loosely from a reference photo, to how I choose the colors I'll be bringing in, to my favorite techniques that help me develop realism while bringing in some looseness and expressive qualities into the piece.

I explain how to develop a wide range of values to create a believable sense of dimension (from highlights, to midtones, to darkest darks), and how to bring in the bright paper as part of the piece for that glow and lightness that's so particular to watercolor.
